This course is designed to cover all issues involved in the acceptance of Dangerous Goods and to instruct trainees in the use of IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. ICAO technical instructions on all sections and IATA Regulations are presented and discussed and all subjects covered. Definitions, instructions and classifications are addressed in an end of course examination. All other Dangerous Goods Modules are also available.

Course content

  • Why this training is mandatory
  • ICAO and IATA instructions and regulations
  • Definitions – State and operator variations
  • Dangerous goods with passengers and crew
  • Packing – the dangers of explosives, gases, flammable liquids etc.
  • Toxic and infectious substances, corrosives and radioactive materials
  • Prohibited articles – firearms and ammunition
  • Shipping names and UN numbers
  • Documents, labelling and the Airway bill
  • Precautions, mandatory requirements, incidents and reporting

Examination

Certificates are issued to students upon the successful completion of the course.

Training method

Instructor-led in classroom. Note. This course is legislated by the following: Annex 18, Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation entitled ‘The Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air’, ICAO Technical Instructions for Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, Statutory Instrument No 224 of 1973 and EU OPS. Sub Part 1220.
