One to One Airline Interview Preparation - a vital step in getting your airline career
21/09/2011
For many newly qualified pilots, the months getting experience, building hours and gaining licences can come to nothing if they fail at the interview hurdles in getting their first airline place. Most airlines will use psychometric testing, simulator checks and a panel interview when selecting potential direct entry candidates; many fail at this stage on simple errors in technical information or failing to handle a few searching questions. In response to this challenge Simtech Aviation asked experienced recruitment coach Brendan Colclough to develop a one to one coaching session to assist pilots at all levels in navigating the interview and selection process and in the last year this intervention has resulted in many successful interviews for Simtech Clients. The session includes video feedback and analysis of participants and their answers and lots of personal feedback. For more information and to arrange a session contact Simtech Aviation at 01-8448073.

Record numbers at Air Spectacular Bray
26/07/2011
Organisers estimate that 80,000 people attended the Air Spectacular in Bray today (July 24), smashing all previous records in the event’s six year history.

Part of Bray Summerfest, the 150 minute show was the largest aviation event of its kind in the country and was opened by the Defence Forces, with a parachute drop onto Bray seafront by the Black Knights Display Team.

The tens of thousands of spectators, who had travelled from all over the island of Ireland to the County Wicklow seaside town, were treated to extreme formation aerobatics, search and rescue demonstrations at sea and displays of Irish and US military aircraft.

Five-time Irish Aerobatic Champion, Eddie Goggins, thrilled the crowds with smoke-filled spins, stalls and salmon leaps; the Irish Coast Guard staged a search and rescue demonstration and the Irish Air Corps flew a selection of army helicopters, turbo-prop planes and a maritime patrol plane. The United States Air Force took part in the show again this year, flying a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft along the east coast.

Aer Lingus marked their 75th anniversary year by displaying the iconic ‘Iolar’ aircraft as well as their ‘RetroJet’ Airbus. CityJet also took part in the air show for the first time this year, which also featured top Irish pilots Gerry Humphreys and Dave Bruton. The high-energy aerobatic displays from the Blades and the RV8Tors from the UK were among the display highlights.

Speaking after the air show, Sé Pardy, the Display Director from Simtech Aviation, said: “This was our most ambitious programme to date and broke all previous spectator records. By staging these world-class air shows, Ireland is strengthening its reputation for aviation excellence around the world.”

Meanwhile back on the ground, plenty of attractions and activities kept spectators entertained before the air show. The Irish Army organized a ground display, alongside the National Microlight Association and Kildare Helicopters.

Bray Summerfest continues until August 7th and the full programme of events is downloadable from www.braysummerfest.com

Countdown to Air Show Take-Off
12/07/2011
Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to gather along the east coast on Sunday, July 24th for the country’s largest free air show – the Air Spectacular as part of Bray Summerfest.

During the 140 minute aerial show, spectators will be treated to close formation aerobatics, beach parachuting, search and rescue demonstrations at sea, pirouette spins, knife edge rolls and nose-down spiral descents.

The air show is now in its sixth year and the display director, Sé Pardy from Simtech, is promising another crowd-pleasing line-up for all the family. “We’re delighted to welcome top Irish and international aviation acts to Ireland, such as the world-renowned Blades aerobatic team and RV8Tors. We’re also delighted to welcome Aer Lingus and CityJet to this year’s Air Spectacular for the very first time.”

Five-time National Aerobatic Champion, Eddie Goggins, will be doing flat spins and daring corkscrew maneuvers; the Black Knight Army Parachute team will be jumping from an army helicopter, 4,500 feet above sea level before landing onto Bray beach; the Irish Coast Guard will be staging a search and rescue demonstration close to the shoreline and the Irish Air Corps will be flying a selection of planes from the Irish Defence Forces.

Organisers have also confirmed that popular aerobatic pilots, Gerry Humpreys and Dave Bruton, will be taking to the air during the show, which starts at 3:30pm. Marking their 75th anniversary this year, Aer Lingus will be displaying their iconic Iolar aircraft and there will also be a display of microlight aircraft. Pleasure flights around Bray will also be available from Kildare helicopters during the day.

Bray Summerfest is now in its 30th year and will run over five weekends during July and August. The highlights at this year’s festival include one of the biggest musical line-ups in event history along with the biggest-ever summer funfair and the Arts Tent. The festival programme also includes three new additions: Bia Galore- Wicklow’s Food Festival, Africa Day and Charity Fest.

As part of An Garda Síochana’s traffic management plan for the Air Spectacular, spectators are strongly advised to arrive in Bray as early as possible on July 24th and to use the DART or other public transport services to Bray.

More information around the Air Spectacular is available from www.airspectacular.com or www.braysummerfest.com. Commemorative brochures with pilot profiles will be on sale throughout the day.

Mechtronix ATR 72-500 Full Flight Simulator
15/03/2010
Simtech are delighted to announce installation and certification of first Mechtronix ATR 72-500 Full Flight Simulator Mechtronix Systems Inc., an MWC company, is a Canadian top leader in the global flight simulation and training market specializing in the design and manufacture of flight simulation training devices (FSTD) for commercial, general and business aviation. Mechtronix's method of building and operating a simulator differs dramatically from what had been the industry's norm. "The classic way was that you stimulated an airplane [through the use of hydraulics] and made the airplane believe it was flying," Xavier Herve said. "Thus, the pilot in the plane then believed he was flying. We don't create an environment that simulates the plane. We create an environment that truly simulates the plane. The end objective is to make the pilot feel he is flying - whether he is really in a plane or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is that pilot feels he is in the plane."
